3rd Annual Luau
July 30, 1988

The third luau marked the first time that guests were greeted with a Mai Tai at the backyard gate as the arrived. It added a festive feel to the event.

60 guests joined us. This year, instead of tradition beef burgers, we tried turkey burgers. We decided that we wouldn't do that again....they were not the favorite food. This was the first year that we invited some type of entertainment. Local radio station Z100 had a party van that would randomly arrive at a local party and bring their Jammin Salmon and prizes. I sent them a fax and hoped that they would select our luau. At 9:30PM, they pulled up and arrived at the party! It was hard to get the people in Connie's backyard to realize that there really was a 6 foot salmon in my backyard!

We continued the lip sync contest. We had three teams compete. MAB, Kathy and Maridee reprised the Supremes, Anne was Michael Jackson and Connie, Kathy and MAB did " Shake, Rattle and Roll. The winner, Anne, was given a $25 gift certificate to Salty's on the Columbia.

The sailboat was ready to be filled with beverages.
It was filled with 23 bags of ice!

This was the first year that my parents had been able to attend.
Prior to that, they had served as our sitter for the evening.

My parents again, Lenore and Al with Shaunti, who was four and a half.
They stayed for dinner and then took the little
tyke-ette to their home to get some sleep.
